Adam talks with American musician Eleanor Friedberger.
Hi. Adam Buxton here with some notes and links for you about this week’s guest.
Eleanor and her brother Matthew formed the core of The Fiery Furnaces, who put out a series of brilliantly strange records from 2000 - 2011. Matthew and Eleanor now work on solo projects but haven’t officially laid the The Fiery Furnaces to rest.
My conversation with Eleanor was recorded in February 2016 and we talked about some of her favourite albums, her working relationship with her brother, whether or not fans should be interested in the private lives of the artists they admire, and her lyrics. Eleanor also performed a version of one of her songs exclusively for the podcast.
And in my outro waffle I bollock on about a couple of music documentaries I enjoyed this week. No, really, you’re welcome.
FIERY FURNACES MUSIC MONTAGE in the intro includes clips from:

I squirrelled this pod away but just wanted to drop a note to say it was fab. I particularly enjoyed the moment where Eleanor asks if you really do want to know the true meaning behind the lyrics of a song - and you clearly do (we all do!) In the interests of fairness I love all the pods equally, but this, Spoon and Jonny (x2) have definitely introduced and reintroduced some excellent music to my ears.
All the best.
love the podcast and pretty much everything you do, I particularly like listening to them on holiday! I liked this one alot, you managed to get Eleanor to open up after initially being a little reticent...good work, young man! I'm pretty sure the birdsong at the end of the podcast was a skylark, btw...Happily that we seem to have a similar taste in music, Have you listened to Milano by Parquet Courts/Daniele Lippi/Karen O? you might like it...or not...
Thanks for introducing me to Eleanor Friedberger and her music. I'd not been aware of her until your podcast. In return, I'd like to introduce you to the most positive Van Morrison encounter story I've heard. (No pooing involved.)
(I once saw him in a café in Glastonbury and he looked quite twinkly and approachable, but I'd heard all the stories and wasn't fooled.)
Re Eleanor Freidberger podcast....Don't listen to that "important" person, I think your hot waffle is the best thing about your podcast.
Also, I think the techno bird was a skylark.
I love you..... BYYYYYEEEEEE
After your introduction to episode 75 I just wanted to say that you've wasted over 75 episodes worth of my life and I am compelled to listen to your rambling crap chat every time a new one appears in my ear holes.
Keep up the nonsense,
All the best,
A note about Comments
Hello Podcats and Blog friends,
I wanted to let you know that comments have been disabled on the blog and the app for the time being. This is not because of anyone posting anything abusive or anything like that, but just because I seldom get round to moderating the stuff that comes in as promptly as I should, and rather than irritate people who don’t understand why their comment hasn’t been posted, I think it’s easier if I just switch them off. Sorry about that, but time is scarce and I’m disappointed to discover I can’t do everything! And if you’re one of the people who submitted a comment and it hasn’t been posted - sincere apologies.
